Elmer Dixon Lecturing at JAMK in Finland

This Week! Lecturing about DEI, Social Inequality, at JAMK in Finland

Elmer Dixon returns to JAMK and Jyväskylä this week for his annual visiting lecture program. Elmer is president of Executive Diversity Services in Seattle, Washington. Elmer and his team of diversity specialists work with a wide range of international clients, including Microsoft, United Airlines, The State of Washington, and Pepsico.

“At the core of Elmer’s message are values such as fairness, equity and equality, each of which are values that Finland and its inhabitants identify with,” says Steve Crawford, Senior Lecturer in cross-cultural management at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä, Finland. “And yet, these values are contested now in many nations, including also in Finland,” says Steve. In recent years Elmer has worked with U.S. law enforcement organizations to address issues related to social inequality and police work. Finland recently announced a similar national initiative as reported in the Helsingin Sanomat.

In his announcement sent to JAMK School of Business Colleagues, Steve said:

Perhaps, though, Elmer is most notable as an important figure in the civil rights era in the United States. Elmer was a co-founder of the Seattle, Washington chapter of the Black Panther Party (BPP). As a Panther, Elmer helped to lead a national movement to counter discrimination across society, while particularly focusing on discriminatory practices in government service agencies. Elmer will share his experiences as a Panther and talk about how his training and consulting career developed into a successful global practice.

On November 15th Elmer will present a keynote in the Tulikari auditorium. He also will visit each of the three CCM Essentials course groups as well as local high schools.
