This has been a busy fall for the Executive Diversity Services Team. Take a look at events we have participated in, in this month’s edition of New @ EDS.
1) Elmer J. Dixon - SIETAR France Congress
Elmer Dixon, EDS Vice President was invited to particiate in t
he 2010 Congress of SIETAR France (the Society for Intercultural Education, Training, and Research – France). The congress’ theme this year was “Human Rights and Diversity: From Civil Society to Organizational Practices” and was held in Lille, France from Oct. 28-30, 2010. Elmer was a panel discussant on the topic of understanding diversity and the respect for human rights in business, politics and the social sectors.

2) Donna M. Stringer - The Diversity Collegium
Donna Stringer, EDS President, has been invited to take part in The Diversity Collegium, which is gathering this month. The Diversity Collegium is a group of 25 individuals that has been meeting for over a decade. Theymeet twice a year to discuss current issues in the field of diversity and inclusion. They conduct research and prepare white papers on current and cutting edge questions in the field. The group is by invitation only and works to create a balance of diversity in its members including race/ethnicity, industry, gender, and research/application.
Some of the current members include: Mary-Francis Winters of the The Winters Group, Price Cobbs, author and consultant to many corporate CEOs, Barbara Deane, editor of Cultural Diversity at Work, Steve Hanamura, Author and Consultant, Robert Hayles, Author and Consultant, Janet Bennett, Director of the Intercultural Communication Institute, Alan Richter of QED Consulting, Sondra Theiderman, Author and Consultant, Kay Iwata, Author and Consultant, and Roosevelt Thomas, Author and Consultant.

3) Farzana Nayani - Mixed Matches & Intercultural Relationships
Farzana Nayani
EDS Senior Associate, has been invited to the Skirball Cultural Center to conduct a workshop entitled “Mixed Matches: How to Create Successful Intercultural Relationships” along with Dr. Joel Crohn.
This workshop, being held on Sun. Nov. 14th in Los Angeles, will enable participants to build a framework for successful intercultural relationships by better understanding contrasts in cultural values, group identity, and communication codes. Using various exercises where couples will practice communication techniques with each other, class participants will learn to anticipate and creatively deal with the challenges they face.
